    Business leaders and investment experts have called for urgent reforms to remove barriers to trade and investment in East Africa, warning that the region risks losing billions in economic opportunities unless member states improve implementation of regional agreements. At the CEOs–Trade & Investment Roundtable, the East African Business Council Executive Director cited intra-EAC trade of about Sh2.55 trillion against a regional economy valued at approximately Sh46.6 trillion, and called for removal of non-tariff barriers, harmonisation of standards, and lower logistics costs.

    The East African Business Council has urged the removal of non-tariff barriers and harmonisation of standards to boost intra-EAC trade and investment. EABC Executive Director Ahmed Farah noted that intra-EAC trade stands at USD 19.7 billion compared with a regional economy valued at 357 billion dollars, pointing to significant expansion potential.
