August sets record as hottest month globally amid El Niño
Europe's Copernicus Climate Change Service reported that August reached all-time high global average air temperatures of 16.96C, surpassing July 2023's previous record by 0.01C, as an unprecedented El Niño pattern strengthens and extreme summer heatwaves and wildfires grip western Europe and the contiguous United States.
