Government launches initiatives to formalize informal sector workers
President William Ruto will on Monday, September 7, 2026, launch three programmes—Fundi Locator, NSSF Haba Haba, and NITA Recognition of Prior Learning—aimed at helping informal workers gain formal recognition, access wider markets, and secure social protection. The initiatives target artisans and skilled workers including masons, electricians, plumbers, welders, mechanics, hairdressers and technicians who lack formal certificates and access to social security schemes.
