WHO Director-General who coordinated evacuation of hantavirus-hit cruise ship and addressed U.S. membership dues arrears.

Travelled to Spain to oversee the evacuation of the MV Hondius cruise ship in the Canary Islands, where a hantavirus outbreak has killed three passengers and sickened others with a rare person-to-person transmissible strain. The WHO chief has warned that more cases could emerge but expects the outbreak to remain limited if precautions are taken.

    Kenya has signed a framework agreement with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention to establish the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre in Nairobi, which will serve 14 member states and strengthen coordination, preparedness and response to public health threats across the region.
