UN rights chief warns AI poses existential risk to humanity
Volker Turk, the U.N. rights chief, warned that artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity and called for "cast-iron guarantees" to secure AI, citing risks including disruptions to services, communications, and democratic systems. He pledged to press AI firms to reduce these risks during his address to the UN human rights council.
