    Olympic and world champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi opened his season with a 1,500m victory in 3:34.11 at the Kip Keino Classic, leading Kenya to a 1-7 finish at Nyayo Stadium. In the women's 800m, Ethiopia's Getachew defeated reigning world champion Lillian Odira with a season's best 1:58.79.
