Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has warned that if the IEBC postpones the July 16 Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, it will lose public confidence and moral authority to conduct the 2027 General Election. Gachagua accused the ruling UDA party of orchestrating violence and voter bribery to create grounds for postponing the election.
Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has called on the IEBC to probe allegations that voters in Ol Kalou are being offered cash, gas cylinders and food in exchange for surrendering their national identity cards ahead of the July 16 parliamentary by-election, claiming this denies citizens their constitutional right to vote.
The government has launched the first phase of Nyandarua University at Kapten in Ol Kalou, with over 1,000 students already admitted and learning at Salient Secondary School premises. The first phase, costing Sh1.3 billion, includes a 1,300-bed hostel and 50 classrooms combined for the university and the neighbouring secondary school.
