  2. Strengthen courts to drive systemic change, not elections alone

This opinion piece argues that Kenya's progress depends not on electoral cycles or leadership changes, but on activating the judiciary as a force for constitutional accountability. The author contends that courts can enforce transparency, timelines, and resource protection where the executive and parliament have failed, and that citizens must view litigation as a tool for national transformation rather than a last resort.

  4. Citizens must pressure states to uphold human rights and accountability

An Amnesty International analysis of global human rights trends finds deterioration in peace, justice, and rule of law, with Kenya reflecting patterns of unlawful force against protesters and repression through counterterror laws and state-sponsored intimidation. The writers argue that citizens, civic groups, and courts must collectively challenge structural corruption and elite impunity through mass protest, accountability mechanisms, and sustained multilateral pressure to rebuild state legitimacy and prevent further decline.

  5. Kenya's public infrastructure lacks aesthetic design and durability

An opinion piece argues that Kenya's poor quality of public works—from ugly statues to badly designed roads with lanes that end abruptly and lacking sidewalks—reflects not poverty or corruption but a lack of self-respect and disregard for building for the future. The author contends that Kenya has the resources to build beautiful, durable infrastructure, but those in charge prioritize immediate gain over quality and lasting work.

  6. President Ruto must prioritize fixing Kenyatta National Hospital

This Standard editorial argues that Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenya's largest referral facility, faces systemic neglect including chronic understaffing, equipment shortages, and delayed services, forcing many Kenyans into costly private care. The editorial calls on President Ruto to treat the hospital's crisis as a national emergency requiring decisive top-level intervention, adequate funding, and accountability mechanisms as a defining test of his leadership legacy.

  7. Kenya must build fuel resilience, not react to crises

An opinion piece argues that Kenya's exposure to global fuel shocks demands long-term reforms: strategic petroleum reserves, diversified supply sources, transparent price-stabilization rules, and accelerated transport electrification—rather than repeated emergency measures.
